Clement, a 37-year-old from Pretoria, received the ultimate gift of life when his younger brother donated a kidney to him — read his story on #TransplantTuesday feature.

1. Which organ did you receive, and in what year?
   A kidney in 2024.

2. How long were you on the waiting list for your organ?
   Five years.

3. What was life like before the transplant How did you spend your days?
  Life was very tough before the transplant, and I used to spend my days very tired. I received dialysis treatment three times a week.

4. Describe the emotions experienced when you were told your donor is a match?
   I was very excited and my heart filled with joy, knowing that the kidney donation was going to change my life for the better.

5. What is life like now, after the transplant?
   Life has improved very well after the transplant and I have more energy.

6. What advice would you give patients on the waiting list?

    Never give up, and continue eating well, and you will get your chance too.

7. Why do you think there is a shortage of donors in South Africa?
    Lack of knowledge around the issues of organ donation.

8. If you could describe transplant in one word, what would it be?
   Life-changer!
