A kidney in 2021.

2. How long was your recipient on the waiting list for your organ?
Two years and three months.

3. What made you decide to donate?
From the moment I heard that Walt needed a kidney, I knew he would get mine.

4. Describe the emotions experienced when you were told that you are a suitable donor.
It was the same kind of excitement when you find out that you are going to have a baby.

5. What is life like now, after donating an organ?
Not different at all.

6. What advice would you give people considering being a living donor?
Follow your inner voice.

7. Why do you think there is a shortage of donors in South Africa?
There is not enough awareness.

8. Had the idea of an altruistic donor become an outdated expectation in a modern society?
Not at all. I think the Covid pandemic was a reset button for people to be more unselfish.

9. What is the biggest stigma/myth that you have heard about organ donation?
That my quality of life will be impeded.

10. Summarise the benefits of organ donation in one word
Life!
